Registration Schedule

General Information

Degree-seeking students who are currently enrolled are eligible to register as outlined in the semester registration schedule, except for a few selected programs, consortium courses, closed classes, or classes requiring departmental or instructor approval (see Classes Unavailable in GWeb). You may register for classes using the GWeb Information System. GWeb can also be used to check for holds on your student account by clicking on “Student Records & Registration”, "Student Records Information", and “View Administrative Holds”.

Specific categories of students are given priority on certain days of the registration period. Once eligible to register, you may continue to register or adjust your program through the end of the Priority Registration period, except where otherwise noted. You may register ONLY on or after the day(s) for your category. GWeb registration will be available from 7:00am - 10:00pm, including weekends and holidays. Occasionally the system may be made unavailable during regular hours for system maintenance and upgrades. These periods will be advertised in advance on the GWeb login page.

Registration assistance is available from 7:00am - 4:45pm, Monday - Friday during priority registration, and 8:30am - 4:45pm, Monday - Friday, at all other times the University is open. Should you have any questions or difficulty with GWeb registration, please call (202) 994-4900 during office hours.

New students who have been admitted to degree programs for the upcoming semester should check with their school for information about orientation and registration. International students should be aware of federal requirements concerning enrollment in a "full course of study".

Students in the Law School or Medical School, as well as Off-Campus Students, should consult with their school or program for registration information specific to them.

Late Registration

Beginning the first day of classes, there is an $80 late fee assessed for any first-time registrations.

Beginning the first week of classes, students who wish to add a course and drop a course as an even exchange may do so without financial penalty if these transactions are made during the same class week (by the drop date for a refund) for an equal number of credits.

Please be advised that individual program adjustments may incur financial penalties and/or additional fees if they are not even exchanges, or involve courses other than those at the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses.

Students who wish to make changes to their schedule once GWeb registration has closed (after the second week of classes) must use an RTF-EZ form. Any course(s) added must have the permission of the instructor or department. After the fourth week of classes, students must receive permission from their Dean's Office to add a course.

Students may drop courses through the end of the fourth week of classes without academic penalty using an RTF-EZ form. After the fourth week of classes, it is considered a withdrawal and a grade of 'W' will appear on the transcript. Students may withdraw using an RTF-EZ form through the end of the eighth week of classes. Withdrawals after the eighth week of classes require a petition to the student's Dean's Office.

Any changes to registration that require Dean's permission (i.e. changing from letter-grade to pass/fail or time conflicts) must be completed using a Registration Transaction form.
