Important notes about ordering transcripts:
- Transcripts can only be mailed or picked up in person, and only complete transcripts will be provided. The University does not issue partial records.
- Transcripts (neither official nor unofficial) will not be issued to students who have outstanding financial obligations to the university, including library and parking fees.
Official transcript requests can be submitted online using the Transcripts Express service in GWeb, in person in the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central, or via mail or fax using the Transcript Request form. Unofficial transcript requests can be submitted in-person, or via mail or fax using the Transcript Request form. All forms must be signed by the student making the request. To best protect your financial information and support compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, credit card information should never be e-mailed. It may be faxed or mailed to our office, or submitted in person.
Be sure to review your unofficial transcript before ordering any official transcripts. If you are waiting for grades to be posted or degrees to be awarded, do not order an official transcript online until you see that information reflected on your unofficial transcript. If you are submitting a paper request form, please be sure to select the appropriate "Hold for Grades" or "Hold for Degree" option.
Online via Transcripts Express
Official transcripts may be requested online through the Transcripts Express service in GWeb. Transcripts ordered online are printed the next business day following the date ordered. This option is only available to students and alumni who have a GWid and PIN. Alumni who attended at any time prior to Fall 1982 cannot use the online system to request a transcript.
If you are requesting National or International Expedited Service and you are ordering multiple copies of your transcripts going to the same address, we strongly recommend that you do not use the online system as you will be charged the destination fee per transcript. Instead, please submit a request form.
In order to access Transcripts Express:
- Click on Student Records and Registration
- Click on Student Records Information Menu
- Select Transcripts
- Choose Request Official Transcript
Payment with a credit card (mastercard and visa only) is required when ordering transcripts online.
If you have a form or attachment that must accompany your official transcript, do not use the online system. Please refer to our other methods of ordering transcripts.
Requests in person
Official transcripts may be requested in person in the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central, on the Ground Floor of the Marvin Center at 800 21st St NW. The transcript request form is available in Colonial Central. If someone else is submitting your request they must also have a completed and signed third-party authorization form.
Transcripts requested in person will be stamped as issued to the student.
A valid GW or government issued identification is required when submitting a request. Payment is also required at the time of request. Acceptable forms of payment for requests made in person include:
- Money Order
- Credit Card (mastercard and visa only)
Unofficial transcripts can be requested in-person at the Office of the Registrar @ Colonial Central. Five in-person unofficial transcripts per day will be provided for free. Additional copies cost $1 each.
Submitting Requests by Mail or Fax
Requests for official transcripts can be submitted by mail or fax using the transcript request form. To best protect your financial information and support compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, credit card information should never be e-mailed. It may be faxed or mailed to our office, or submitted in person.
The request form must be hand-signed by the student making the request or it will not be processed. Payment must accompany the request or it will not be processed. For transcripts being sent outside of the US, please provide a contact name, phone number and email address (if available).
Requests submitted by fax must be accompanied by a credit card payment form (mastercard and visa only). Requests submitted by mail may also include a check or money order payable to The George Washington University. If you are submitting multiple transcript requests you may use a single credit card payment form or check.
Please do not submit duplicate transcript requests without first speaking to a Student Services Representative to determine if a repeat request is necessary. A repeat request that has not been previously discussed with our office will most likely result in duplication of both the transcript services provided and charges to your credit card.
Requests made for unofficial transcripts by mail or expedited carrier require the same payment as requests made for official transcripts. You should submit a transcript request form with payment and select "Unofficial Transcript" in the 'Special Instructions' section of the form.
Pickup by someone else
To have someone else pick up your transcript you must provide our office with:
- A completed and signed transcript request form (if ordering an official copy)
- A completed and signed third-party authorization form.
- A copy of your GW or government issued ID.
- Appropriate payment for the transcript.
The authorization forms may then be e-mailed or faxed to the Office of the Registrar at firstname.lastname@example.org or (202) 994-3445, or submitted at the same time that the transcript is being picked up. To best protect your financial information and support compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, credit card information should never be e-mailed. It may be faxed or mailed to our office, or submitted in person.
Transcripts picked up by someone else will be stamped as issued to the student.
